I havenāt seen any of these threads on this sub before but I think it would make for an interesting discussion. Iāve seen a ton of different perspectives on lockdowns on this sub, as we arenāt a monolith (which is good). Here are some of mine:
I really donāt have an issue with mandating masks for a period of time. I think they help slow the spread and Iām willing to go through with a mask mandate for the time being. For me, it becomes an issue of how long, and if thereās an exit strategy. But if I lived in a place where my governor said āwe will be mandating masks until October 1stā for example, Iād have no issue whatsoever there.
I think schools should have their own policies for reopening on a district-by-district basis. I really donāt think itās a good idea for schools to be opening, right now, in a hotspot for instance. Some schools that are reopening in hotspots now have already been forced to shut down for new positive cases. Also, viral load plays a large part in how severe your case is, and the potential for viral load to be pretty high happens in a school setting.
I think Fauci, while flawed, is trying his best navigating this whole thing. I really donāt understand the vitriol behind him by some people on this sub. It doesnāt mean we need to take every word he says for gospel, but I think heās genuinely a good person who really is trying his best.
Iām not against some businesses such as bars being told to stay closed. I think the government needs to do a better job at helping them stay afloat, but anywhere that can be a super spreader location in a hot spot (bars, clubs) probably shouldnāt be open rn.
What are some of yours?
