Contest: This is a rework of an existing champion. I like Malzahar, I like making little guys and being annoying and breaking enemy carries. But as he stands he’s a bit one dimensional, I’d like to give him more chances for big plays that interact with his voidlings and make his ability to shut down one person in particular less binary/ point and click.

Background

Appearance:

The man floats wrapped in tendrils of fabric that twist and contort towards light. His form is withered with elongated limbs but his eyes glow bright with incandescent violet. Jewels and charms and incense float free around him. His minions are wiry crawling on all fours and with gold and jewel tipped claws.

Lore: “North.” That was his lady’s last word to him. Blessed by Bel’Veth Malzahar set out on his pilgrimage, to where the Frozen Watchers lay in waiting. She has told him to stop them, destroy them, assist the child should it come to it.

But of course, this mistress can be short sighted, and just destroying with watchers without first finding out what lies in their ancient minds would be missing a ripe opportunity. It’s a good thing Malzahar has a long time to consider his next move on his pilgrimage.

Abilities

Cult of the Void

Malzahar is a cultist, and at rank 3 of each ability he chooses an ally champion to join his cult.

Malzahar gathers essence from his foes.

Each champion takedown or large monster kill grants 1 essence.

Every 3 ability hits against champions or minion kills grants 1 essence.

He can have up to 4 essence at once.

Malzahar spends essence to cast his ult which he has from level 1, or on the second casts of his basic abilities.

Q 1 Malefic Visions

Glorious isn’t it?

First Cast: Malzahar fires an orb of void energy that sticks to the first enemy it hits. For 3s the enemy takes magic damage scaling with their Max Hp each second. If a unit dies while afflicted, this effect bounces to a new unit and its duration is reset. Each time the effect bounces it adds the same % of the previous targets Max HP to its damage per second.

Cultists and voidlings have increased attack speed against afflicted enemies.

Q 2 Zealotry

If you refuse to see...

Malzahar detonates his current malefic visions, dealing its magic damage per second in an area around the afflicted enemy.

Voidlings and cultists in the area get the bonus attacks speed from Q1 and on hit magic damage for 3s.

W Void Shell

50 Mana | 24/22/20/18/16s Cooldown

We protect our own.

Malzahar summons a void shell around a cultist for 2s.

The void shell reduces magic damage and enemy attack speed against the target and nearby allies.

If the target would be immobilised or displaced, the void shell blocks the effect and falls off or is displaced instead, continuing to provide its aura for the rest of its duration but no longer moving.

W 2 Entrapment

1 Essence | 3s Cooldown

You can’t run.

After 1s Malzahar roots all enemies around the void shell, extending the duration if necessary.

If a champion is caught by this effect nearby voidlings burrow to them and the duration of the void shell is reset.

E Entropic Embrace

40 Mana | 10s Cooldown

Flavor description

Passive: Each time he collects essence Malzahar regains a small amount of health and mana.

Active: Malzahar grants voidling and cultist in the target area a buff for 2s. Their attacks apply a stacking slow (up to 5 times). At 5 stacks this harvests essence from champions and the champion is silenced for 2s.

Units that harvest essence for Malzahar get the health and mana as well.

E 2 Disincarnate

1 Essence | 3s Cooldown

They’ve abandoned you

Malzahar Banishes any enemies silenced by this ability for 2s.

While banished, any health the target would gain and the effects of any spells cast on them by their allies are delayed until the banishment ends.

If the target dies while banished Malzahar and any nearby cultists receive the delayed healing and spell effects for themselves.

R Touch The Void

0 Mana | 20/15/10/5s Cooldown

Come on in.

Malzahar channels, opening a portal at the target location that spawns voidlings regularly, spending 1 essence each time it does.

While inside the portal enemies are nearsighted and Malzahar’s silence, banishment and malefic visions against them don’t tick down in duration.

Malzahar can recast this ability to attach the portal to a cultist for the remaining duration.

Playing As Malzahar

As Malzahar you must bide your time, gathering essence while you wait for your moment to channel your portal and amass your forces. Essence provides Malzahar with an important choice, whether to spend it on building his forces or on enhancement to his basic abilities.
