A friend is asking me about the feasibility of this. He doesn't use a huge amount of internet at home. No gaming, just some light YouTube and basic surfing. So he's looking to just use his phone as a hotspot.

I checked some plans for him and from what I'm seeing, it looks like none of the "unlimited" plans support this. You can tether your devices, but that only includes a set amount of "premium" data. Once you go beyond that, your phone still gets unlimited (though reduced speed) data, but the tethering feature is cut until the next month rolls around.

Based on that, I'm thinking this isn't a great idea and he's better off just adding the extra $20/month to get a basic home wi-fi package. But I figured I'd ask around, maybe somebody out there is pulling this off somehow and has some tips to share.
