Took me way to long to start doing this. But with stuff like chicken especially, where once it's frozen, nearly impossible to break apart until thawed, so end up having to thaw an entire bulk buy just to get the single breast or two I want for a Caesar salad. Now I'm on the clock to use up the rest before it spoils (I really hate refreezing).
Finally started just portioning out into vacuum sealed bags as soon as I bought. It's simple, but has saved so much time, wasted effort, and more importantly, wasted money and food. I'll buy a few pounds of chicken breasts, immediately break them down, and freeze them individually so I can just pull out one at a time when the craving hits.
Nothing groundbreaking. But something easily overlooked when you start living alone and cooking for one
It's amazing how a simple change like portioning food can make life so much easier when living alone.
