Hello and welcome to the start of 2019/2020. It doesn't matter if you plan on going to the first game of the season or the last - if you want to go to ANY GAME in the upcoming season - PLAN NOW.
First off, get to know the ticket buying guide - it mostly stands up but keep an eye out if a new one appears. LINK
Second, the 'ticket availability' page is your best friend. This page has all the ticket info anybody knows. If this doesn't have the info, we don't know. LINK
A quick breakdown of how ticket sales work for LFC:
- If you just want to go as a one-off and it's a special trip, Hospitality is for you - it's expensive but it's a guaranteed ticket and an amazing experience
- If you want to build your account and go the match more regularly, read on...
- You need 1 valid membership per 1 ticket
- Your membership account acquires a 'credit' for each game attended.
- The more 'credits' acquired, the more games you can go to next season.
- The thresholds are generally 0, 4 and 13 credits.
- E.g. Your first season, you manage to get 4 in the bulk sale, you will qualify next season for the better sale where you stand a better chance of getting tickets.
- 0-4 is a VERY HARD sale to get any tickets in
- 4-13 is DIFFICULT to get tickets in
- 13 you're guaranteed tickets for the upcoming season
- There's a bulk sale in July for the first half of the season and one in November for the second half
- In the bulk sale, there are few games for accounts without previous credits
- If you fail in the bulk sales (very likely) there are other sales...
- Additional Member Sales: A couple of weeks before the match - low availability and maybe the last general chance for a ticket
- Local Member Sale: Only for members with an 'L' postcode - sold at face value - very limited tickets
- Local General Sale: Only for registered users with an 'L' postcode - very limited
Essentially, you need a membership. Try in the bulk sale and if you fail, you'll get another chance in the additional members' sale which takes place a couple of weeks before the match.
The specifics
We've covered the basic guide one ticket buying (hopefully it has made sense - I've had 4 pints so excuse me if it doesn't!) - onto types of people buying tickets. Hopefully, the following cover everyone here, if not message me.
1. I've never been to Anfield and only I want to go to one match this season
Hospitality is the answer! You need this page
2. I've never been to Anfield and I want to go to more than one game and build my account
You need a membership. Remember: 1 membership per ticket. So, if you're planning on going with a friend, you'll both need a valid membership.
Once your membership is sorted, keep an eye on the ticket availability page - refresh it every few days to see if there's new info.
Next, you're looking for the BULK MEMBERS SALE. This is the most stressful day of your life. For more info on how it works, read the ticket buying guide.
If you don't get any tickets via this sale, WHICH IS VERY LIKELY, remember, it's not all over. There are 'Additional Members Sales' throughout the season.
Most importantly, check the ticket availability page almost every day to keep on top of dates.
3. I want to get to Anfield and I don't apply to the above two points...
Read through the Ticket buying guide for 2018 - It all applies, just the dates are different. If it's something that isn't covered in that, message me and I can let you down gently via PM.
4. I want to be in the travelling kop (Away tickets)
Domestic or Away - If you don't already know, then you ain't getting tickets. It's as simple as that. I have a valid account with almost every home game for the last 2 years and I will never officially qualify for any away ticket in my lifetime. Also, fuck touts.
Hopefully, that has kicked everyone into gear to start to think about tickets for the next season. If people are arsey come March about tickets, it's coz it all sold out the previous year - you have to plan ahead. Good luck, I hope everyone that wants to, gets to Anfield in the coming year.
If you have any questions, i'll do my best to answer. There are no stupid questions at this point - ask them all now!!

TL;DR - Fuck Touts.
