No Room For Racism campaign is really important, and to see so many clubs and players stand up has been fantastic. Though, after yet another incident where I watch a game in a pub, where I am getting abuse from other Liverpool supporters about my race - it becomes very isolating and difficult.
I am Asian and Australian, but I have grown up travelling around the world due to work and family. Liverpool has been the club my family has supported through several generations, I've watched the club play in Anfield, in Japan and even in Melbourne where Liverpool sold out the MCG in a pre-season match. Liverpool inspire me everyday to be my best.
I love this club, I love the supporters, however the trend over recent years when I watch the team play has been the increase of racist comments.
"There are too many Asian supporters." "Why are you supporting Liverpool, you are Asian, support your local team." "I am sick of foreign people supporting my club."
Slant eye gestures, the constant microaggressions that I don't belong there and that I don't deserve to support this team.
I wish it would stop, completely ruined the 2-1 win today for me.
Edit: Thank you for the support, all the comments and everything. As a lot have asked: this kind of abuse has come from all over the world. Whether I am watching a match in London, Australia, the US - the racial comments have increased. Together we can stamp this out.
