I am an international student (indian) Pursuing my second masters from the UOL and i moved in UK about a month ago, just after the riots basically.
Liverpool has given me the peace as a home away from home. I am really looking forward towards a new future here in this beautiful beautiful city. From my very limited experience, i find that locals are really friendly, I've had some truly wonderful interactions with the locals here. Also to mention uber drivers are really friendly.
Despite all this I've had a fair share of bad experiences. I really want to do something nice for this city through my time here and i have high hopes but i want to ask a few things from all of you guys and i cannot just brush it off anymore now.
So many times I've seen locals cannot understand what i am saying, i do not have a strong accent and most of what i speak is in the standard RP accent but even then i have to really slow down when speaking with them. Idk why is that.
I've seen this clear favourism happening , alot of time in asda or lidl or aldi etc i can see workers looking at us differently, moreover a few days back someone was smoking in the building that i stay in which is a non smoking building. I went to complaint but to my surprise the person at the reception said this exact words "you don't pay us to call the manager at the weekend" and i never said i wanted to call the manager, all i said was that the manager told me to call him anytime but this person again couldn't understand what I meant.
3 And a few days back as well this guy coming from infront sharted shouting"Arab Arab" at me idk why. Things like these are what breaks my heart.
Long story short
Are you guys sick and tired of us international students coming to Liverpool? Do you want us to leave ? What can we do to be a part of this beautiful city and why do you look at us differently?
Tldr
I have felt alot of instances where people look at me or treat me differently. Although most of my interactions have been friendly, it makes me sad that people here see us international students differently.
