Edward Nashton found himself forced to move into an awful, disgusting, pitiful studio apartment in the worst part of Gotham City. He was right next to the Monarch Theater, which was also next to Crime Alley. To be reduced to this was the greatest of all shames, and it was all because of the stupidity of his former supervisor at WayneTech firing him for his brilliance.

He couldn't see it: the magnificence in Edward's latest in spy technology. He'd developed a tiny camera that was water-proof, shatter-proof, heat-proof, and all around worked as well as a full sized security camera. No, it was even better. The quality was top tier, it could zoom in, record, and rewind. Edward had even modified it so it could be worn over the human eye and not be felt. The materials needed for this involved him stealing from the company, but when he was caught, he was promptly fired. He hadn't even gotten to finish his invention completely, just barely getting the device to detect faces.

His only saving grace was his neighbor, Alice. Not nearly as smart as him, but her beauty was one to behold. He hated that she had to see him like this: on the bottom, poor, unemployed, and not at the top, where he belonged. It was where socialites like Thomas Elliot, Oswald Cobblepot were allowed to flaunt their wealth and their status. It infuriated him to no end. But at the moment, there was nothing he could do, except possibly find comfort in Alice. She would be the first milestone to his resurrection, and eventually, Gotham's new age.

One day, when Edward had been peeking out of his doorway, he noticed a delivery man approaching her door. This was his chance. He quickly stuck his hand outside the door and using a taser, immediately shot and stunned the man, knocking him backward and down the stairs. Cautiously, Edward peeked out of his door once more to make sure he wouldn't be coming back. Picking the food up off of the ground, he took hold of it and approached Alice's door, knocking on it.

His story was simple: he caught the man about to pour chloroform onto her food and he caught him. When he tried to fight him, Edward used his taser to defend himself. Of course, he had a small dose of chloroform in his hand, but as far as Alice needed to know, he took it from the sleazy deliveryman. He would be her knight in shining armor.
