Specifically this verse:
Feeling when it's flooding in
Woke up knowing I don't have to be numb again
Starting line, scratch that
I don't have to run again
Giving fucks back
Tell 'em that I'm not coming in
I'm the person on the payroll
And you can't tell me how I should do it
'Cause you say so
But I'm not dancing to the rhythm you replay no
'Cause I'm already half a million miles away no
Is it just me, or is Mike singing about the bittersweetness of being able to become independent of Linkin Park... using references to old Linkin Park songs? A few lines in these lyrics seem to be calling back to older LP music.
Mike is energized and at the stage of acceptance here. He's ready to get back in the game and make more music, even if that means doing it without Linkin Park, regardless of what anyone else, fans included, may think or want. He's ready to move on.
I feel like it's kind of obvious, and therefore a lot of people probably already realized this, but I figured I'd point it out and share it anyway in case there was anyone who didn't catch that.
There is a chance this could just be coincidence or even overanalyzing a bit, but it seems there's a mixture of subtle and not so subtle callbacks in here.
