Hello all, long time lurker looking to make the jump. A little about myself: 26, veteran with some college credits. Single with no kids. Currently in Florida & willing to travel.
After some time in different job field’s I’ve decided to pursue the lineman route. Ive done my research as well as constantly looking through this community for info. At the moment im at a possible roadblock & looking for some tips/answers.
I wanted to get my CDL before applying for apprenticeship or going to a line school. In my area theres only 2 major schools that you can go to for getting your CDL & I rather not use my GI Bill for it unless theres a better route I dont know of yet. For these schools Id have to stop working to do which wouldnt be the best idea since I have bills to pay. I was also looking to go the VEEP route but because I dont have my CDL, I’m not sure if id be wasting my time applying.
Theres not many ways to get a lineman apprecenticeship or groundsman position without knowing a certain someone in my area so I figured after reading throught the community, lineman school would be my best bet to get my foot in the door.
My first question is should I get my cdl in lineman school or is there another way so that i dont use my gi bill?
My second question is if I were to go to a lineman school, what state would be a better option to start in? Or does it no really matter until I hit JL?
All answers & tips appreciated.
