Each time I play for the first time I hate my tone and have to change it, is this normal?

Post Body

I got my POD GO about 2 weeks ago now and love it to bits, as someone who is only recently back into guitar after taking a 2 year break it really improves my sessions when my guitar sounds THIS good, however I am brand new to this and I obviously am no good at making a sound. I spent a good few hours the other day trying to make a good overall sound for clean and distorted, and wanted it to sound like Petrucci (but I was fine with just a generic sound that I liked) and finally settled on my patch and went to bed. Next day I pick it up and can't wait to play some DT songs and it just hurt to listen to. I definitely saved it from the night before too, and hadn't changed any settings in the time since. Anyway, slightly annoyed with it and myself I got to work and made a ton of adjustments and then played and basically same thing happened the next day. I really have no idea what's going on. Is this common? Will it ever end? Or am I just gaslighting myself to like the sound and then with fresh ears realise I've actually done a bad job?
