The band was loud and rocking, which brought delight to my 42 year old ears. Surprisingly, the majority of their covers were from this century at least. That might explain the mix of 20 somethings all the way up to 50 somethings in this local bar across from the big hotel and conference centre in town. The music wasn't bad, though, and the drinks were making me feel warm and toasty on this Friday night in August, so it wasn't all that bad.

Well, it certainly was better than being back home and sleeping on the couch, at least. About a month ago, I caught my wife in my own bed with a guy from her office and I understandably lost it on both of them. We split up that night and I agreed to sleep on the couch until we could sell the house and get separate places.

Much to my relief, my boss offered me the chance to go to the yearly conference over a weekend in August, which was a good there hour flight away, far enough to be able to forget home and that awful, old couch for a couple of nights.

So here I am, freshly single and not looking too bad for my age. Sure, I have a bit of a dad bod and salt and pepper hair, but women at work say I've actually gotten more attractive with age. In years past, I may have just chilled in my hotel room after the keynote speech each night, but this year I decided I wanted to go down to the bar and see what happens...see if I could get myself into a wild adventure like you see in movies but never real life. I needed to get a little crazy to get back at my wife and prove to myself I still had the looks and stamina to attract beautiful women.

Little did I know, I was about to get my money's worth...
