Nurses aren't often given the respect they deserve. You went into nursing in order to help people but as time went on you grew frustrated with clients, especially men. You worked in a urology clinic and the bulk of your work dealt old men and prostate issues. Occasionally however you also helped with vasectomies. There was something you especially enjoyed about making sure healthy fit men couldn't reproduce again.

Maybe it was a race thing, maybe it was your way to get back at the patriarchy, or maybe you just enjoyed the power. You didn't exactly talk about it in therapy so the real source of your joy was still a bit of a mystery to yourself. But over time, simply tying tubes wasn't as rewarding. You started volunteering for more extreme cases, testicular torsion, ruptured testicles, anything involving more permanent loss of reproductive function.

I first met you when I was in a routine checkup in order to discuss a vasectomy. I was fit and still in shape for my age and was friendly with you as you asked me the usual questions.

"Well I don't really want to reproduce at this point in my life so looking to get fixed. Honestly the risk of reproducing makes my balls more of a risk than they are good." I had joked.

"Oh? Well I can always let the doctor know you want something a little more permanent than a little snip, if you feel that way." I laughed thinking you were joking and we went ahead with the rest of the visit. What I didn't know was that in my chart you had actually made a comment for something a bit more extreme.
