Edit: when I say SLG, I also mean Inin - I assume they have/had a partnership of some kind but can't say for sure.
So when I was browsing Amazon for upcoming PS4 releases, I noticed a listing for the Wonder Boy collection. I've been on a bit of a retro compilation high recently, so I was interested and looked at the list of games. I noticed that Wonder Boy III isn't included. That seemed like a bizarre omission, since there aren't that many games in the series to begin with. Why leave out a mainline entry? Also, there's only one version of each game. Another odd choice for a series known to be ported to many consoles.
I looked it up, and it turns out there is a better Wonder Boy compilation being released by SLG, which not only includes WBIII, but all of the different ports of those games. So they're essentially making a proper collection for an expensive limited release, and then a massively downgraded version for retail. Seems kinda nasty.
Then I remembered that I'd seen SLG do this before, with Space Invaders and Turrican, and a couple others. Space Invaders Forever - the Retail collection - I remember being particularly egregious for being a Space Invaders collection that didn't even include the original Space Invaders.
All of these collections - both the proper SLG ones and the handicapped Retail versions - are developed by Inin which seems to be owned by the same parent company as SLG.
Does this practice seem a little weird/shady to anyone else or is it just me?
