Ceiling light options - new construction

I'm sure this is dense, but I'm building a new home right now and a few weeks ago the builder asked if I wanted water or disc lighting throughout the house. I guess I was confused on what was what.
They've installed these blue boxes throughout the house and are telling me I can't use the lights I picked out (GE Cync) and they need to be disc lights.
Is that the case, can I correct or are there smart disc lights that are recommended?
