This is just an idea i had in my head for a while.
One day a plan is too make enough money to buy a large estate.
Then modify it into classrooms and dormitories(if a student is homeless or isnt in a safe place at home they can sign up to a year round stay or just stay for the summer or just for the holidays). I make common areas and a cafeteria that is open to the kitchen. All of this serves a purpose.
I open a girl's and boy's school(also lgbt supportive). Grades 6 through 12. Name is still in development. It has no religious affiliation. It is scholarship based, and a pay-what-you-can model, but ideally we work our way to 100% donation based maintenance, with every penny going back to paying the staff and bettering the school. What we have left will be donated to Animals shelters and cancer research.
Our teachers and instructors can either be highly educated or skilled or they only made it pass highschool/1 or 2 years of college. We can focus on STEM and Law, and plenty of the Arts. Everyone is taught history(the right way. No skipping. No bullying and No illegal activities. These rules are strictly enforced), painting, music, Astrology, and writing alongside biology, law and physics and calculus and coding. Students will take shifts to help cook meals in the evenings with the chefs, so they can be self-sufficient. There is a large Garden on the grounds that Everyone tends so the students have that connection to their food, that understanding and pride. Maybe there is room for chickens and goats too, for milk and eggs, and to teach them how to get their hands dirty. They also do Chores like mopping, dusting, laundry, and mowing are divided among the students and rotated so every one of them learns how to live independently.
Science classes can venture onto the grounds for sample collection, some instructors may prefer to give their whole lecture in the courtyard. A painting class may spend an afternoon setting up easles on the lawn to study capturing light.
The lawn is for physical activities: running, and yoga and kickball. Any sports teams the students want to form.
Movement, and the possession of one's own body, is important. Uniforms are comfortable and non-restrictive.
Clubs are abundant. Poetry clubs, book clubs, dance, knitting, debate, movies, and whatever they want. There are event night for movies/tv shows or crafting or "How to" presentations where the students can teach things to one another (how to sew clothes, how to draft a professional email/essay, how to change the oil in a car). The community is diverse and close.
We bring in Judges, physicians, professors, engineers, sculptors, and chefs as speakers. They talk realistically on the struggles of being who they are. They talk about how they overcame and thrived. They talk about career paths, and college admissions, and navigating the world through the unique lenses of beings.
It is a school for students to let them become self-sustained, self-realized, and self-loving.
