LPT Remove batteries from non emergency items that you don't use often.

Items like stud finders, volt meters, or anything battery powered that you use very infrequently - store them without batteries. This will reduce the amount of batteries you have to buy/keep on hand. It will also prevent you from having to clean up the mess inside the battery area when the battery fails and you have white powder inside.
