If buttermilk is required for a recipe and you don't have the time/don't want to spend additional money on a single use item, you can easily make a perfect buttermilk substitute. You need 1 cup of milk(cream, half and half or dairy free alternatives work as well, you can even use evaporated milk-if you dilute 1 park evaporated milk to 1 part water). You will also need vinegar(I use either white or apple cider) or lemon juice. For every 1 cup of milk you need 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice. Stir together and let sit for a minimum of 5 minutes. Poof, a proper buttermilk substitute.
