How do I prepare myself for jobs in my field if I’m working in a different field and going to school full time?

Post Body

I work in a IT related position but I’m on the path to graduate with a bachelors in computer science (programming)

While they’re both sides of the same coin, I have no experience with software development while I do have plenty as IT/Sysadmin

I don’t feel like my school is adequately teaching me programming either at least this far. I still have around 2 or 1.5 years left to go and the only thing I’ve had is Java 1 java 2 and computer organization. It is a community college -> university transfer program so maybe ill learn more once I transfer but I feel like I’m woefully underprepared to program anything. And I’d like to learn on my own but considering I work and go to school my free time is limited.

Is there any recommendations on what to do?

40 hours of work a week and around 21 hours of school(including travel time but without studying time)
