is living a life that aims for the respect of people around you a stupid goal?

Post Body

Hi, just wanted to ask, if planning for the future.. I think there are the house that you want, amount of money you want to amass, the kind of place you want to live in, but also to live a life where people around you respect or recognize you. Is it a goal worth aiming for? Since we can't control people's minds, I just have doubts that it's a worthwhile goal. I mean for my own feelings, it's a good thing to have, ideally. I would want to feel good about myself to be held in high esteem around the community. But of course there are those people who are just not good.
