Should I take a new job opportunity, if I plan on spending less than a year in the role?
Post Body

Hello I currently work at a Bank as a Personal Banker. I really enjoy the company I work for but I am tired of working in Customer Service/Retail.

There is an internal job opportunity that would undoubtedly be better. I would become an Administrative Assistant to members of our Commercial Lending team. My work place would be much closer (going from a 30 min drive to a 10 min drive), I could work from home 2-3 days a week, and the job would be less customer service focused (there would still be some, but drastically less). I also feel pretty confident I will receive the job, as the last time this job was posted I was in the final 2 candidates, but was passed up for someone who worked in that exact role (with our company) in the past.

However the delima comes that I am currently a college student. I will be gratuating at the end of next year. When I graduate college I am hoping to find a job as a credit analyst. However, i worry about the backlash of applying for an internal promotion, less than a year after receiving a new job. I know I could look for an external position, but I would love to stay with my current company if I can.

I can't decide what would be better, staying in my current role until I have a degree, or taking an upgrade now and risk not being able to get an promotion within the company later.

Any advice would be appreciated.
