Parting ways after a long time

So currently going through a potentially life changing decision with my partner of 12 years where it appears after a long time we aren't sexually compatible and this is stopping the relationship from going any further, is it the best thing for both of us to acknowledge it and say we just don't work out as long it has been as hard as the decision may be?
