How to handle the holidays when marriage is falling apart

Post Body

I (47M) and my wife (41F) have been struggling with our relationship since April of this year. We are still friendly and amicable but the relationship is not improving. Weโ€™re considering a trial separation.

We have a child, 8 years-old, as well as extended family obligations during the holiday season and Iโ€™m not sure I have it in me to keep up appearances. With every activity so far - seeing Santa, prepping Christmas cards, planning our family get-together - my heart breaks more and more. Iโ€™m not sure how to get through this without alienating family, hurting our child, losing my mind.
