Wal-Mart just tried to illegal detain customers during Black Friday shopping.
Post Body

I just walked out of a Wal-Mart in Gadsden, AL. Black Friday shopping. However, before doing so, I had to convince the people working there that they could not illegally detain the people inside the store.

The argument was that there was a little girl that had gotten lost. They were going into "Code Adam" and were going to shut down the store. Nobody leaves, nobody comes in. I was told that this was "their policy".

People started going ape-shit. I finally got up to the front of the line and explained to the employee that they are not law enforcement and cannot illegally detain customers from leaving the store. Plus, this is Black Friday shopping, and somebody was about to get trampled and hurt if they held us in much longer.

Not that I particularly cared at the time considering I got out of there safely... But out of curiosity, was I correct?

What would you have done?

You would just "deal with it"? You do know this is /r/libertarian, right?

Detain - keep (someone) from proceeding; hold back.

The Wal Mart employees were literally holding their hands in front of people trying to leave, telling them "You cannot leave".

And how are you missing the point that what Wal Mart tried to do is ILLEGAL? They cannot hold anybody for any amount of time whatsoever. The policies of Wal Mart are not law.

First of all, I never said I made a fuss. I said everybody else lost their minds. I, being an intelligent person that knows their rights, explained to the employee that they could not legally hold people inside the store.
