I open this topic as a both a discussion and maybe, open for recommendations.
In the late 50s, early 60s in Mexico, particularly in central south coast region, there were small groups of two (Duetos) or three (Trios) who played songs using only acoustic guitars with nylon strings. Usually, one or two of the guitars would play riffs along the whole song. All the songs used to have romantic lyrics. Some good examples of these music are Dueto Caleta, Los Dandys, Los Tres Ases. Similar music was being played in countries such as Argentina and Peru at the same time. However, this movement that I really love by its humble but beautiful guitar has disappeared, or so I thought. Recently, YouTube recommended this artist “Las Hermanas Garcia” who play in a very similar fashion. Two girls singing and two guitars, on playing chords and the other playing riffs. I have been looking all over Spotify and can only find guitar music with steel strings, that is not that I don’t like them, but I feel the loss the beauty of nylon. Why do you think such a simple genre to play (in therms of instrumento requirements) has died, and why nylon guitars are not so frequently used anymore?
