I'm thinking of actual popular bands with social messages that relate to the now. Akin to The Smiths 'Panic', Rage Against the Machine, Sex Pistols, Bob Dylan, etc,. I'm not saying there's none popular right now, more like it's me who is out of touch. Terrorism. Police killing black men. Economy in the shitter.
Are we just in the age of empty popular music through which nothing of substance can thrive? I hear snippets occasionally say in Lorde for example bucking the trend of flash and commercialism. But is that her main message? Are there other artists I'm overlooking? What genre currently is the best medium for such messages?
