First off, a disclaimer: I love hip hop. It's an eclectic, varied genre filled with all sorts of artists and music, from introspective and thoroughly conscious commentary on society to fun, addicting party jams that are a joy to listen to. While I'm not a superfan, I love tons of the songs and albums from it and admire plenty of what its genres have to offer.
I'm sure you all know that there's a large portion of people that view all rap as crap. Those people, of course, are stupid; it's one thing to not enjoy any hip hop, but it's another to constantly shit on a genre you don't like or understand. It's dumb, reductive, pointless and narrow-minded. Not all rap is vapid, and yet many pretend as if it is. This viewpoint gets a lot of scorn and criticism, and for good reason (in my humble opinion).
Despite this, there's another genre that routinely gets a similar level of flack- country. It has that same feeling to many of being shat on by outsiders based on the modern stuff, but with an extra sense of being allowed; you don't see nearly as strong of a backlash against people who say "all country is shit!" like you do with "all rap is crap!". I think they're both silly views- not all rap is Lil Pump, not all country is Florida Georgia Line, and there's mountains of wonderful content across both genres.
My question is simple, the same as the title- why is shitting on country cool whilst doing the same for rap is not? This question isn't a reactionary one, I'm no chud- just a little curious as I've been getting into country big-time lately.
Liberals will call you racist for hating rap
