So I just came across this subreddit and I have to say it makes for a great read at night. It occurred to me though I had an experience much like all of this. Minus the I didn't get freaked out part.
In high school I would rotate between staying late at school for JROTC and coming home at the normal time. On a slightly overcast (it had been sprinkling all day on and off) I decided I didn't wanna stay late since they weren't doing anything that interested me.
Upon coming home I walked up the driveway and entered the code to open my garage door. Something felt off and I peeked my head around the side of the house. To this day I can't tell you why I did this, there was no smell or sound as I recall I just looked over.
Now in my backyard it's half fenced off so we could let our golden retriever out to do her business and she'd come back when she was ready. There was a second story porch that provided cover from the weather if she went out in the rain or snow. Standing under this porch is a rather large white guy. He just looks at me and I looked at him, then passed him to see if the door is shut. I know it's a straight shot into the house where I can lock the door to the garage, no need to wait on the garage door going down.
So I pull out my phone and Sprint inside dialing 911 and locking the door behind me. I make a straight line to my room where there's a shotgun in my closet (i used it to shoot clay pigeons at a local gun range, my mom really didn't like guns in the house so it stayed locked in my closet.) I grabbed it and loaded it before I even got my address said to the operator on the phone.
I proceeded to go out my front door with gun in hand loaded where there was no way to sneak up on me. I waited there until the police came. They went over the house. Everything was locked up they thought he had tried to get out of the rain. Never saw him walk off. Didn't see him in the street when I exitted my house and I never saw him again.
Dear dude in my backyard, I hope to never meet again.
