What about STI's and hooking up?

As a female in a relationship, I'm not actually looking for casual sex, but I've always wondered how people can just go out and meet a random person, drag him/her to bed for a night and have sex without fears of contracting something. Do you all ask about it before sex, or examine the gentials or something? I get that condoms help with that, but what about with oral? If I were to go have casual sex, I would probably want to give the guy a blowjob to rev him up or to finish him or just because I enjoy giving blowjobs. Would I just have to be careful or just not give oral since it's risky with ra do guys?
