Hiking wasn't always something that I was into, I was more than content with the simple walking trail near my house for the longest time. A mixture of wanting to challenge myself a bit and wanting more friends had led me to your advertisement a few years back, for a very reasonable price you would lead groups on hiking trails in multiple locations. You didn't seem to mind novices and so with some hesitation I signed up and was soon happy I did. You were wonderful, impossibly warm and friendly, eager to teach people new things. The hiking itself was terrible at first, but even that didn't seem so bad with you there to encourage me. Week after week I kept coming back, quickly becoming one of the regulars and soon we were genuine friends.

Your wife came on most of the hikes, my husband even came on a few to see what all the hype was about. I suspect he was a bit worried about me spending so much time alone with a very athletic hiking guide, but those worries seemed to go away once he saw for his own eyes that you were a very sweet woman. Now he's just happy that I have friends and a hobby I love, and I feel completely the same.

However, these feelings were not completely mutual. Yes you loved hiking, and you loved when I would come with you, and you considered us friends. The difference was that while my feelings ended at friendship, yours did not. Your own wife had even noticed the way you would stare at me when I wasn't looking, she would even make jokes calling me your "girlfriend" due to how close we were. I'd always brush off those comments with a laugh and I thought it was the same for you, I couldn't hear the underlying bitter tone in her voice whenever she made those jokes. You of course assured her that there was nothing to worry about whenever she brought it up at home, but you knew you were lying to yourself along with her. Still, these feelings were just that, feelings. You didn't need to act on them, right?

It was easy to think that you could just suppress those feelings before when all you had to worry about was hiking with me. Sharing a sleeping bag with me, feeling me snuggle closer to you for warmth, smelling my hair as I slept, that made things noticeably more difficult. This hadn't been our first trip by ourselves, it was bound to happen with how often I came out, but it was the first overnight one. Not that we had planned for that, otherwise I would have brought my own sleeping bag. The storm had come out of nowhere and it was a particularly nasty one, luckily there was a cave nearby that we were able to shelter in before getting too wet. Sharing the sleeping bag was very awkward at first, but it was either that or freeze until it was safe to travel. After getting comfortable it hadn't taken long for me to pass out, but you doubted you'd be able to sleep anytime soon.

You lightly pressed your face against my head and breathed in the scent deep, it was all you could do to keep from squirming against me. You wanted to respect my privacy, and been able to keep your hands from wandering too much so far, but us literally being wrapped in each other's arms wasn't something you could just ignore. Granted I had only started holding you after falling asleep, but you certainly weren't complaining. The only thing you were doing now was wondering how much further you might be able to take it.
