Tips for a safe hookup?

As the title says!

I am finally, FINALLY, escaping an abusive situation (it wasn’t relationship related, I’ve never dated) and soon I’ll be able to experience a lot of things that I’ve been wanting to do and/or have been missing out on! It feels so good to breathe again.

One of my goals for the new year was to lose my virginity, and I’m finally in a good place to try and attempt that. So I ask: what are some tips I should know for a good hookup? Some of the things I can think of off the top of my head are:

-Meet the person before doing anything (and in a public area to ensure safety) and discuss any expectations before hand

-Let trusted friends know where I’ll be and give them my location on the off chance that something happens

-Make sure that we both get tested before doing anything (I’ve done a few tests before despite not being sexually active at all because I just wanted to make sure I didn’t have anything genetically related. Also gift cards are a fun incentive)

-Stay vanilla for the first couple of times. I have a whole laundry list of things I want to try but jumping into the deep end isn’t safe and probably wouldn’t be fun

-Of course, communicate every step of the way in case I feel discomfort with anything

If y’all can think of anything else, pls let me know! :)
