i am so grateful for the family that i have, they have given me so much love and support since the moment i came out, but my girlfriends family is the complete opposite. they always give her issues when she goes anywhere with me like a family event or a vacation. we’re both in our 20s but it is so hard having to see her fight with her family because of me. the funny thing is, when they meet me they actually like me, but they can’t get over their homophobia and never accept her for who she is. right now i’m waiting for her to come back inside the house because she’s been on the phone with her cousins who are telling her she can’t bring me to the family vacation because there needs to be respect for the older generation. even though she said i can be respectful and bring her, and saying how can there be any compromise if they always get there way. anyway it’s really tough watching it affect her. i wish i could do something or say something, but she’s been dealing with this for years and i doubt anything i say will change that 😞
