I was reading an account of the Sioux War today. It's amazing how different a perspective a first hand account provides. All the details, personal relationships, and emotions that are absent from third person histories written purely for the sake of posterity.
Has anyone read or can recommend good auto-biographies, interviews, or other accounts of the experience of lesbian women?
The last time I walked into a book store and asked for "a woman author, or a woman's perspective, ideally from history?" the clerk excitedly handed me Outlander and said I'd love it.
The entire story revolves around a woman who time travels to Scotland around the time of the Jacobites. Does she document a time capsule with instructions to kill Hitler? Does she grab the nearest wire and hunk of magnetic rock to invent electricity? No. The whole thing revolves around some guy she falls for.
People have suggested Stone Butch Blues, but it hits a bit too close to home for.. reasons.
It doesn't have to be intense either. A friend recommended a comic, My Lesbian Experiences with Loneliness that was great.
