We were dating for 4 months. I’m the very beginning they were very excited, talking about getting matching Christmas jammies, and other such things that sounded like they were invested. But soon after they started expressing things like “I’m uncomfortable with how much you care about me” wanting me to stop using any affectionate names, etc. Which now looking back feel like signs/red flags that I should have picked up on, indicating they weren’t nearly as invested as I was.

We went on trips and had a lot of fun dates. When we broke up they said they wanted some independence, that the past few months were hard, and that they didn’t know how they felt until a few days before and didn’t want to fake it for the rest of the week until we could talk. Which kind of indicates that they didn’t see it coming and they were invested the whole time.

I just don’t know how to shake the “hind sight is 20/20” thing. Like why didn’t we break up sooner?
