So, kinda a PSA. Bought a new Lenovo Legion 7 Pro whatever with the Intel chip and 4080. Desktop apps, Chrome, etc were laggy, although, gaming was alright. About 40FPS in Cities Skylines 2. Couldn't quite figure out why it was so laggy and just started to think it was the machine.
I thought it was Win 11 Efficiency mode as to why Chrome would studder and generally be laggy since the laptop was new, couldn't quite figure it out. Steam took a long time to open also. Since I swapped SSDs when buying it, never booted the laptop on the installed OS, I enjoy fresh installs anyway.
Come to find out, I've been running the laptop in "Quiet" mode since it was new out of the box for the last few months. Now I get 100FPS in Cyberpunk and 70 in Cities Skylines. Web browsing is smooth and works as expected now, and the system feels much more responsive.
Your power button light can be blue (Quiet), white (Auto), or red (Performance). What is yours?
I'm happy I figured this out, can use all the power of the laptop now!
I've also been through a Razer Blade, XPS 13, Asus G14, Lenovo Yoga, Galaxy Book, a Thinkpad all in the last year. The Legion is my favorite desktop replacement so far! I keep the Mac around as an actual portable laptop due to battery life.
