Tips for arrowhead/artifact hunting?

Post Body

Hi, so I just found out recently that I live on a tributary that feeds into the hackensack river in NJ.

This tributary, upon further investigation appears to be a place where Native Americans did happen to live. The specific area along the tributary could have been inhabited for as long as 5-6000 years.

Anyways, I was curious what the best tips are for looking for arrowheads/artifacts. Should I be digging? If so, how deep. Should I do that along the tributary itself? Or in the areas around it? I should say that according to the maps I have, they may have set up at what appears to be a pond or on the running tributary by said pond because according to current maps the tributary starts at a pond that I can walk up the tributary to. This is in the lower hudson valley area of NY.

Any tips as to where to look along this tributary or where and how to dig/excavate/search it thoroughly would be super helpful. I even have some maps if anyone is interested in helping me figure out where I should dig because I've been at this since August and its TOUGH.

Thanks!
