Weighing risks and abilities
Post Body

My 9 yr old son was given an initial diagnosis last night as having LCP. Heโ€™s playing football and has been having ongoing pain in his hip, so we took him to the ER and after an X-ray, the ER doc gave this diagnosis. We will be following up with a pediatric orthopedist soon.

Our primary question is, in the interim, can he use his own pain level as a guide for how much activity he does? Or is there a risk of him causing some significant damage by continuing to be active when he is NOT in pain?

Of course Iโ€™d never allow any sport or activity to continue if it put him at risk, but heโ€™s a 9 yr old boy that lives for football season and if he can safely do skill drills or play for a short period of time and then go to the sidelines when he gets uncomfortable, then we want to consider that opportunity.
