Marketplace Seller lied about car product MOT

Post Body

So my girlfriend (a student) recently bought a car from Facebook Marketplace. The car was said to have a full MOT valid for 8 months and a small list of minor defects (such as an air conditioning issue, nothing serious)

A few days after buying the car, the gearbox began to fail and after a call with the garage, it turns out the car had never had an MOT and the sellers completely lied.

We have confirmation that they listed the MOT as 8 months, and messages via Facebook marketplace etc.

What legal grounding do we have here (if any?). This group has always seemed to be very helpful for others so I thought it was worth the post.

Thanks.
