Landlord requesting additional deposit for renewed tenancy

Post Body

Our tenancy is ending in 27/11 and we contacted our landlord about renewing, they sent us an email about starting a new contract on either 27/11 or 27/12 but they have increased the rent.

Because they didn’t give us 30 days notice before the end of our tenancy we said we’d start the tenancy at the increased rent in December and pay the usually agreed rent amount for November.

They are now asking for an additional deposit for the difference between the original and revised rent amounts.

I’m just wondering if this is normal/legal and where we stand in regards to it.

Any information is appreciated!
