Photo ID to delete my account and data?

So I started creating my Monzo account a few years ago, but left it halfway through. So I never actually opened my account. I had forgotten all about it until they recently sent a spam email. So I emailed them to delete my account under GDPR restrictions. I received a reply from them asking for a photo ID to delete an account I never used and never even technically opened. Is this normal? I honestly assumed my account would be deleted automatically because I hadn’t used it for years

I am in England if that matters
