i am about to reapply for my driving licence. i had a valium withdrawal seizure and due to this my gp told me i have to declare it as they did too, so i declared and surrendered my license rather than wait for them to take it from me.
ive been through drug recovery and it has been over a year (June 15th 2019) since the seizure, and just over a year since my last dose from tapering off the drug.
i am reapplying for my licence now, but i got myself wondering how long this process could take, what i may/may not be doing right to make this as quick as possible, and also what powers the dvla have in this process.
i am looking forward to just getting this done, having a medical exam/test to prove there are no drugs in my system, and having them contact my sponsor to verify.
my questions are:
1.how deep can the dvla dig into my medical records? i am being prescribed pregabalin for nerve pain stemming from an ankle tumour ive recently had removed, along with tramadol for the same issue - im hoping that hopefully shouldnt be an issue as these drugs are for a legitimate reason and not abused.
what kind of test (if anyone here knows) do the dvla have me take for historical benzo abuse? i dont drink alcohol but ive had cannabis before, but not for a long time - should i declare this or would that just complicate my reapplication?
any other advice that could help my case?? i just want to get driving again so i can jump back into my chosen career path in woodworking, rather than continue working a job that i dont belong in.
Thanks
[Edit: i am in England]
