Hey there,
Long story short... I lost my ID licence back in 2022 in London, and recently I've started to get fines and speeding offences that do not correspond to me (I've never driven or owned a car in UK).This fines are sent to me when police tries to make a match of details provided to them of the "driver" of the offence.
This has been reported to Action Fraud, but they keep coming and it's really frustrating. If I get the fine to my house, I normally contact the police force involved and they take it off my name but some others do not reach my address as they get sent to other addresses I am unaware of - and time passes until they reach court.
It seems I got invited to court and of course I did not receive the letter and no one appeared, so now they've sent me an attachment of earnings order and contacted my employer. Again, this fines are not related to me at all so it's frustrating.
I've contacted the court and they say I can either do a Statutory Declaration or ask to reopen the case but I am unsure what to choose. They did say the attachment of earnings order will get cancelled if I choose the Statutory Declaration.
What's best if I am a victim of identity theft? I do not want to pay for lawyers or help when I have not done anything wrong.
Thank you so much in advance
