Not married in the UK, is it possible to get a divorce here?

Post Body

Bit of background; we (both 42) got married in 2007 in India. Moved to the UK in 2009 and are British citizens now. Have kids (12 and 5, both British citizens) and a house which we're both paying for.

For the situation - She will be moving to India with the kids for a year to be with her parents. The move is planned around Aug end/ September of this year. I'm fine with that. And if the kids like it there and settle in well I will follow (I don't want to but will do it to be with the kids). We've agreed how our living arrangements will be once we're all there. Living close to each other so we can both be involved in the kids' lives and they have access to both parents as and when they want.

The only thing is I don't want to move before the divorce is all done. I don't trust the laws there and hence want to get it done here. Again, something I've communicated to her. She might not be alright with that but we've agreed to it.

The questions I have:

  1. Is it possible given our marriage was registered in India?
  2. What's the most convenient and cost effective way to do it, considering we've agreed on things (verbally for now)?

Edit - We're in England

TIA
