Hey folks,
This is probably kind of weird, so apologies in advance.
I'm an American who currently works in a contract position for a digital media company that runs primarily out of the UK, though it does have an operating office in New York (I'm remote and never go there). Since I started over a year ago, there have been periods where the company simply doesn't pay us on time (I'm supposed to get a lump sum per month that's paid within the first five days of the next month). I'm a contractor, but my direct boss is a full time employee and she also doesn't get paid on time, for months at a time. We have had to force the owners to talk to us about what's going on. They have told us that they use some kind of third party service to collect payments from sponsors, and apparently there have been all kinds of issues that slow down them actually getting the funds. When we do get paid, it's often in smaller chunks than what we're supposed to get. This obviously feels like it should be super illegal, and is at least in breach of the contract I signed in terms of payment dates, but I don't know what recourse I have.
I've been trying to find another job and have been able to get by with other freelance work, but this cycle is eating up any savings I manage to accumulate and it just sucks. I've tried looking up UK labor laws that would pertain to my situation, but it hasn't been all that helpful. If anyone here knows of resources I could look into, I would really appreciate it!
