Local factory smell - what can I do?

Local factory 1 mile away (as crow flys) makes outside life impossible during spring/summer months. It’s a slaughter house and the smell is grim.

My local councillor is as much use as a chocolate tea pot.

I understand the argument of “you brought a house near a factory, deal with it” but foolishly didn’t ask about local smells and wasn’t apparent when we brought.
