Post Body

I was sexually abused as a teen by a family member about 15 years ago.

At the time I was just a 13-14 year old teen and it occurred over a year. I went to the police when it all came to light and the police had 28 charges against the person. I was in denial and couldn't go through with court so an agreement was reached that they would plead guilty to one offence of incest and was jailed.

Now many years later I'm realising that although I accepted it, and felt like I'd moved on as best as I can I'm realising I'm very broken as an adult in more ways I can count.

If someone has taken a plea deal for one charge, does that mean it's case closed and cannot be revisited legally?

All I know right now is I need help and luckily can make a sensitive claim with ACC again to get therapy. But wondering if I can tackle it legally now that I realize the impacts were far greater than my teen self and even adult self can cope with.

Thanks in advance.
