Succession certificate vs letter of administration vs legal heir
Post Body

Hey all,

I’m the only son of my parents.

Mum passed away in March and we transferred all her movable assets to mine and dad’s name. Basically all accounts have me and dad as joint holders. Her zerodha account had me and him as nominees and we got her shares allocated to mine and his account.

We have our apartment in mom and dad’s name still. We have a small ancestral property in mom’s name and some land in their names. There is a sizeable money in dad’s Central Provident Fund account and I would need to withdraw that as well.. We also have a car in dad’s name.

I read in some places that succession certificate is required and in some places that legal heir certificate is required. I spoke to a lawyer and he said I need a legal administrator certificate!

I’m thoroughly confused as all of them seem to be expensive affairs. I’ve been quoted 1.4 lakhs for the letter of administration

Can you please suggest what is the certificate(s) that I need?
