Previous PG owner asking me to pay his income tax
Post Body

Hi everyone, need your support please 🙏🏻 I was previously working in a company in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh and I moved out in June 2023. I stayed in a PG called Bliss Co-living spaces (Murali Nagar, Vijayawada) and I paid ₹15,000 rent per month. I filed my income tax returns and submitted the invoices (which they shared) along with PAN to my company for proof. (In the invoice, it is not mentioned that the owner’s PAN is not to be used). Now, the Income tax office has sent him a receipt that I (tenant) have paid ₹1.1 Lakh from June 2022 to March 2023. The IT department is asking the owner to pay 12% tax on the claimed amount. The PG owner is asking me to pay 12% on ₹1.1 Lakh which is ₹13,000 approximately. I don’t know why I should pay his tax? When I joined the PG, I told him I’m there for work. They didn’t mention about separate rent for working employees. Now, he is saying that if you wanted to claim, we would have added 12% in monthly rent. I have no intentions of paying this man his tax money. What should I do if he keeps bothering me? He raised his voice when I informed him that I don’t understand why I should pay tax again.
