As the title says, my mate got caught in Spain trying to bring more tobacco in than the allowance. Spanish customs confiscated it and sent him on his way with a fine of £1000. He came back and got a letter from uk customs saying something along the lines of they have been contacted by Spanish authorities and he has to pay the fine. He’s ignored it and now has a letter from Spanish customs saying the fine is now £2500. But he’s not heard anything else from uk customs (assuming as it’s not actually anything to do with them)
So question is, can uk customs chase him and make him pay for this or can he just avoid Spain for the rest of his life and not bother about the fine? Just want to find out the Uk stance on this and if they can come after him. Thanks
