A lot going on, huh? Holy shit. Only way is through I suppose at this point. A lot could happen before may, lads.
I’ve been thinking for a while of writing something to this effect, but with the recent sacking of Marsch it seems fitting to say what’s up.
There seems to be a vocal (not sure how big) contingent of people on the sub who believe the American fans to be somewhat naive in their fandom. I think it’s true at times. And I understand why someone from Leeds or the UK might be particularly annoyed by a new fan who doesn’t really understand the culture of the club. In many ways, we simply can’t understand the complexity of the club because we aren’t tied to the land nor have we grown up with it so to speak. That matters.
That being said, I also think there is an underestimation by the UK faithful that a good portion of us Americans support the club regardless of which 11 play the field or which manager stands on the touch line. We want to be a part of what we’re still trying to understand.
The sad reality is that American sports just aren’t the same. Fans are scattered all over the country, and in many ways lack passion and unity. City and club in European football are inseparable. Fans care more. They are incredibly emotionally invested in the club. Often, the local economy depends on the success of the club. As an American I envy the fuck out of not growing up in it. Thats’s all. I fucking love Leeds and I wish I could get tossed at a pub with all you lot.
